Champions League league phase draw takes place today

The draw for the league phase of the UEFA Champions League takes place today in Monaco, with Sporting and Porto awaiting their opponents in a competition that will feature 36 clubs competing in a league format. Porto, European champions twice (1986/87 and 2003/04), returns after two years of absence for its 28th appearance in the main phase, while Sporting adds its 13th participation, the third consecutive, after reaching the quarter-finals last season. This is the 72nd edition of the greatest European club competition.
