Yayoi Kusama, Japanese artist born in 1929, began at age 10 creating the polka dot and net patterns that would become her trademark. Internationally recognized for her immersive installations, sculptures, and paintings, Kusama attributes the origin of her style to childhood experiences, when, while observing a tablecloth with red flowers, she began to see the same motif repeated in different parts of the environment and on her own body, creating the illusion of infinity that defines her work.
