I'm very happy with what Mensagem does: showing that racists are stupid

Ferreira Fernandes, director of Mensagem de Lisboa, wrote a chronicle about the mission of the newspaper founded in 2021, from the team selection process (which included an immersive experience in Montgomery, Alabama, recreating Rosa Parks' incident in 1955), to covering stories of Portuguese people with immigrant roots who fight for nationality. The author denounces a recent case of manipulation: a photograph of one of these Portuguese people, published by the newspaper in 2022, was stolen and used by third parties to falsely insinuate that the drunk driver who ran over people in Albufeira was Black. Fernandes concludes that Mensagem fulfills its role of showing that racists are ignorant and that Portuguese identity is also built through literature and belonging.
