Car sales in Europe grow in July and remain positive: these three are the favorites of the year

Car sales in Europe remained in positive territory in July, with almost 1.11 million units registered in the month in the European Union, United Kingdom, Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland. Year-to-date, 8,356,696 vehicles were registered, representing a growth of 5.7% compared to the same period in 2025, when 7,906,896 units were registered. In July alone, growth was 4.1%.
Meo saw its revenues grow 0.3% to 1.297 million euros in the first half, although in the second quarter it recorded a drop in billing of 4.6% to 648 million euros, reflecting competitive pressure in the consumer segment, offset by the expansion of the energy and business services business. The company highlighted the completion of the sale of 65% of Intelcia and the Covilhã Data Center as part of its portfolio optimization strategy. CEO Ana Figueiredo highlighted the company's "resilience" in a challenging period for the telecommunications sector.
Capital market rules are being changed again to adapt to new European directives and simplify investment. The new minimum threshold is set at 12 million euros, a significant increase compared to the eight million currently in force, representing an important change in the regulatory framework of the sector.
The CEO of Meo, Ana Figueiredo, states that the second quarter results confirm the company's resilience during one of the most challenging periods the telecommunications sector is experiencing.
Fosun, the shareholder of Fidelidade and BCP, more than doubled its profit in the first half of 2024, totaling 217 million euros (1.7 billion yuan), an increase of 160.3% compared to the same period last year. Revenue remained stable at around 11,094 million euros, while investment in innovation and technology grew 16.7% to 4.2 billion yuan. Fidelidade, with 30.1% market share in Portugal, saw its net profit rise 23.8% to 165 million euros, despite losses caused by storms. Chairman Guo Guangchang stated that the strong profit recovery validates the business optimization strategy and that the group is well positioned to accelerate growth.
