Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, celebrated for her iconic dot patterns and one of the most influential figures in contemporary art, died at age 97. Born into a middle-class family, Kusama felt misunderstood by her parents, who preferred that she marry rather than pursue an artistic career, which led her to move to the United States, where she developed her unique style and achieved international recognition.
