Vasco fans and directors protested against the refereeing during halftime of the match against Vitória in the Copa do Brasil. Referee Matheus Delgado Candançan, from São Paulo, was heavily criticized after controversially sending off Cauan Barros in the first half, during a challenge with Kayzer. Upon leaving the field, the referee and his crew were booed, had drinks thrown at them and were greeted with shouts of "you're going to die," being escorted by security. Vasco directors also tried to protest against the refereeing crew but were held back. The controversy of the red card occurred after Barros, as the last man, attempted a risky pass that bounced off Kayzer's hand, and the midfielder cut the trajectory with his arm.
