The former PSD leader, Marques Mendes, argued that one cannot live in "permanent election campaign" and criticized the impossibility of reaching minimum agreements between political forces. In a speech in which he admitted he might return to political commentary, Mendes said it is important to look at historical examples of governance, mentioning Francisco Pinto Balsemão and Mário Soares as models of understanding that should be followed.
