The trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, considered the mastermind behind the September 11, 2001 attacks, has been scheduled for 2028. Mohammed has been held at the US military base in Guantánamo since 2006 and is accused of orchestrating the plan to hijack planes that crashed into the Twin Towers in New York and the Pentagon in Washington, resulting in the deaths of nearly three thousand people.
