The Central Bank of Brazil announced that it is preparing measures to mitigate the risks arising from the high level of household indebtedness, especially due to the significant participation of more expensive credit modalities in the debt composition. In a statement from the Financial Stability Committee (Comef), the monetary authority stated that the objective is to strengthen credit sustainability and the resilience of the financial system. The BC warned that the current scenario is marked by contractionary interest rates, increasing default rates, higher income commitment, and record household indebtedness, which requires additional caution and diligence in credit granting.
