Distributor decides to release 'Dark Horse' after the election and cites bad experience with film about Lula in campaign year

The distributor Europa Filmes decided to launch "Dark Horse," a biopic about Jair Bolsonaro, only after the 2026 elections, citing a negative previous experience with the release of the film "Lula, the Son of Brazil" in 2010 during an election year. Director Wilson Feitosa stated that it is not strategic to release political productions before electoral contests. The film sparked controversy after revelations that candidate Flaviano Bolsonaro allegedly asked banker Daniel Vorcaro from Banco Master for money to finance the production, with at least R$61 million allegedly paid. Although Flaviano promised complete accountability, this never happened, and Lula's allies have been using the issue to try to damage the opponent.
