'Airport malaria' leaves two dead in Germany; four others were infected

Six Frankfurt airport employees contracted malaria, with two reportedly dying after being bitten by an infected Anopheles mosquito that arrived in the country inside an airplane. The other four affected are receiving hospital treatment. Traps have been installed in the airport terminal to capture mosquitoes and the specimens are being analyzed by the Robert Koch Institute, the German health agency, which confirmed the origin of the outbreak.
A nine-year-old child was seriously injured after falling from the second floor of a building. As soon as the mother realized the accident, she called emergency number 112. The girl was treated at the scene by an INEM medical team and later transported with serious injuries to the Hospital das Caldas da Rainha.
