A landslide on the border between China and Nepal hit Gyirong Port, one of the largest trade centers between the two countries, developed as a strategic land passage and key point of the Belt and Road Initiative. The port, situated more than 1,800 meters above sea level, moves hundreds of millions of dollars in bilateral trade per year, representing almost one-third of the trade exchanges between China and Nepal in 2024. Since 2017, it has also served as a crossing point for travelers. The incident occurs amid floods that left dead and missing in Nepal.
